How to Reduce Spring Allergies

How to Reduce Spring Allergies

If you have spring allergies, we understand how you feel.  People who suffer from seasonal allergies have a decreased quality of life during those troublesome months.  In order to reduce the symptoms of allergies, we first need to understand what is causing them.  Seasonal allergies, referred to as hay fever, are usually caused by different kinds of pollen.  In the springtime trees, grasses, and flowers release lots of pollen into the air.

For a lot of people this pollen causes an allergic response when inhaled, which often leads to sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and even allergic asthma.  In order to reduce the symptoms of spring allergies we can do 1 of 2 things.

Note: There's a lot of tips and home remedies on the internet for how to get rid of allergies, but most are ineffective.

First, we can take drugs that reduce our immune system's response to the pollen, called antihistamines.  But in many cases people don't want to take these drugs since they may have side effects.

The other thing we can do is to control the air that we breathe and reduce the amount of pollen in it.  If we are not exposed to the pollen, we can't have a reaction to it.  Unfortunately there's not much we can do to reduce the amount of pollen we breathe in outside, but we can control the amount of pollen indoors.

How to control our indoor air

There are a few steps we can take to reduce or eliminate the pollen from our indoor air, which will significantly reduce our spring allergies.  First we should make sure our windows and doors are closed.  We need to limit the amount of pollen we bring into the house by keeping windows and doors closed as much as possible, washing clothes that have been outside, showering before we go to bed, and vacuuming floors and wiping off surfaces.

Next we need to filter the air that we are breathing.  It's important to use an air purifier that has high efficiency filters that can remove all the pollen from the air and can also clean a high volume of air and distribute it throughout the room.  We developed Aspen to do just this.  But in addition to pollen Aspen removes other pollutants from your air that can cause allergies such as dust, pet dander, mold spores, smoke, odors, smog, bacteria, viruses, radioactive fallout, and VOCs.

Aspen does all this with a high performance 3 stage air filtration that removes all pollen and more than 99.97% of all particles down to 0.1 microns.  For reference, pollen particles are 9-200 microns in size.  Aspen has an AHAM Verifide CADR (clean air delivery rate) of 442 cubic feet per minute for pollen.  That means it completely removes all the pollen from 442 cubic feet of air every minute, which is over 26,500 cubic feet every hour.  That's enough to clean all the air in an average sized home every 45 minutes.

The number 1 thing we can do to reduce spring allergies is to filter the air with a high performance air purification system wherever we are, whether at home or at the office.  We built the ultimate air cleaning machine that we would want to use to make the air we breathe healthier.

Aspen is a tool to accomplish our mission: to improve human performance, health, and quality of life by providing access to clean air.
